Like Natalie, I think this chapter of The Trial was rather superfluous as it does little to further the
plot of the novel. Similarly, I had forgotten about K.’s relationship with Ms.
Bürstner. I also thought it was creepy and rather suspicious how K. simply
entered Ms. Bürstner’s room and stayed in there for a while, even when Miss
Montag and Captain Lanz saw K. K.’s case has basically come to a standstill,
however, I disagree with Natalie when she says that nothing else will happen
with his case. I do think K.’s case will eventually continue and something will
transpire that complicates K.’s legal situation. I agree, Ms. Grubach and K.
have a rather weird relationship, they say they are old friends and Ms. Grubach
thinks highly of K. Ms. Grubach seems to be intimated by K. though because she
breaks down crying when K. interrogates her about the commotion in the
building. Unlike Natalie, I do not think she has deeper feelings for K. I agree
with Natalie, that if K. had spoken with Ms. Bürstner something would have
happened, I do think the two will eventually come in direct contact with each other,
as K. seems determined to speak with her. This chapter only further characterized
K., rather than advance the plot.
