Natalie, as I said in my
reaction, I too feel like this chapter was just thrown into the book to take up
space (and my time). And the chapter would probably have been more interesting
had K. confronted Ms. Bürstner. However, Kafka is not stupid so there is probably
a correlation between the Trail and this chapter. Maybe the purpose of this
chapter is to set the stage for an event that has not occurred yet. This
chapter also reminded me of some of the characters that I had forgotten. We
also have not read The Trail for two
weeks, so we might have already begun forgetting some things (we might have to
reread it before writing our term paper L).
I also agree that K. is being a creep throughout the chapter. I disagree with
you in regards to the process of the case. I believe that the case is still
progressing, and I believe that the waiting is going to make sense once we
learn what the government is doing. I do not think Mrs. Grubach has a thing for
K.. I think the reason why she holds K. in such a high esteem and always cares
about what he thinks is because K. is he customer. Joseph K. pays rent to Mrs.
Grubach and because of that she probably cares about what he thinks.
